What is Lean Coffee:
Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, agree things to talk about, and begin talking. Conversations are directed and productive because items to discuss were democratically generated.
You and other members will share knowledge, discuss options, challenge assumptions, unlearn, and learn together.
Maybe you have a question on your mind, a problem that you might want to crowd source possible solutions, techniques for effective leadership or you want to share something that worked or some lessons. You are free to raise any work related topics you like.
The topics are not limited to agile ways of working only.
Who is it for?
We are piloting this to participants who have undertaken any of the courses below:
- Product delivery and practitioner course
We welcome you as long as you have an open mind and willingness to listen and learn.
Additional information
We will explain this at the start of the session:
Here are the steps to follow in a Lean Coffee meeting:
- Share Ideas: The participants then share their ideas related to the topics. This can be done in a round-robin format where each participant shares one idea at a time. Each idea should be concise and communicated in a single sentence
- Prioritise ideas: Once all the ideas are shared, participants vote on which ideas they want to discuss further. Each participant is given a set number of votes that they can use to vote for the ideas they find most valuable.
- Discuss ideas: The ideas with the most votes are then discussed in more detail. Participants can share their thoughts, ask questions and provide feedback on the idea. This discussion is guided by a facilitator who ensures that the conversation stays on track and that everyone has an opportunity to speak. We will limit the amount of time to discuss each topic.
- Move on: Once the discussion has run its course, the group can move on to the next idea with the most votes and repeat the process.
Come join us and experience lean coffee for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our sessions 🙂
Some Sample Topics that you could bring to discuss:
We will discuss the most important topics for you during the session. Here are a few ideas of topics or problems you might want to bring to a lean coffee session:
- I have a new team – how can I build a great team and culture from the start?
- Members of my team don’t seem to get along, there is tension in every meeting. What should I do?
- How can I make it safe to fail and encourage learning from failure?
- How do I get a better understanding of my users?
- My team never meets their sprint goal and we always carry stuff over. What should I do?
- What is the best way to prioritise my backlog? I can’t seem to get the right balance.
- My team don’t get a say in any of the user discovery work. I feel like we are just a feature factory. What can we do?
- Product Management vs Project Management – It is exhausting wearing 2 hats
- Deadlines good? Deadlines bad? How should we think about them?
- How can I say “No” to strong stakeholders?
- I have given an optimistic project end date. We will not hit this date. What should I do
